College Advice

It has come to my attention that many of you out there in diaryland are about going off to college for the first time. I have some advice for you.

-It sounds clich but its the truth in a lot of ways, these will be the best years of your lives. Appreciate them.

-Experiment.

-Time has no real meaning when someone asks to meet them at three be sure to ask am or pm?

-Theres no such thing as single-sex. Single-sex rooms, dorm, bathrooms showers yeah right. Thats just a meaningless label they apply to things to make them more agreeable to your parents just wait until the first late night fire drill in your single-sex dorm youll see.

-Whatever you do, DO NOT try to meet your soul mate your freshman year. Attempt holding off on that to at least midway through your sophomore year.

-Play.

-People need to be judged for who they are NOT what they do.

-Once if ever you get a room all by yourself you will never want a roommate again.

-Take as many pictures as you can.

-Go nuts decorating youre dorm room because itll probably be the last room where that sort of expression is acceptable.

-Your friends are putting their hearts and souls into shows, performances, plays, games, matches etc Show Respect.! Attend some of them.

-If you happen to learn any one single fact, let it be the fact that you like your professors and everyone else, really and truly knows nothing for sure, and that everything we hold as truths is up for speculation by some party who very well might be more correct than us.

-Take time for yourself.

-Try not to let the TV become the center of your rooms entertainment.

-Pull at least one all nighter.

-Learn to pick classes by who teaches then as much as what they are about youre older colleagues are invaluable for this.

-There is nothing advantageous about an 8am class.

-Eventually give it a bit DO try to find out what youd like to do for the rest of your life Oh! and while youre at it.. try to come up with a feasible plan B and even C.

-Do not worry about grades all that much they will happen all by themselves.

-College professors usually have a lot better taste in required reading then youd expect.

-Your college does have a library and its there for more than just napping.

-Remember YOU are in college, not your parents, therefore take that into account with any advice / instruction they give you.

-Consider Orientation events Al La Carte none are really mandatory but a lot are really worthwhile. Pick and choose as you wish, but note, youll meet more people the in the first few weeks of college than at any other point in your life.

-In a pinch the cap of a lava lamp will work as a shot glass.

-Once its all said and done, your friends and the times youve shared with them, will comprise most of your memories from college years and years from now.

-Enjoy!
