Waiting for whats next

There are a lot of clichs already in place, Its where not youre going, its how you get there , Its not the destinations that matters, its your ride that counts. And for good reason too. Theres a lot to that idea. Movies, Books, Songs etc.. are all about some trial or turbulence that in the end comes to some conclusion. And at that point the story ends. The main character is left where and how he or she is on that last frame / page / note We go on, our lives progress, while they remain there. Heh! Maybe thats why we embrace sequels so often, even the bad ones. We dont like to see characters just sit there on the last page. (hang on were about to take a might concept jump)

I think we can also apply this concept to our lives in general. I think that somehow we too enjoy the getting there more than even the happily-ever-afters. (You still with me? I did warn you to hang on) We always want to be heading somewhere with our lives, we want some destination to strive for. This is easy and obvious for us when were young, there are so many steps laid out for us. Turn this age / get to do that / learn this / graduate that eventually the goals get bigger and fewer between. And yet we look forward to them. We strive and work to reach one and on to the next. Along the way we see many of our peers hit walls. They come to obstacles which are hard and sometimes impossible to overcome. They are forced to reevaluate their goal, and either come up with a new path or a whole new end to ride towards. For them the story has just changed in an unexpected turning point yet, it plays on.

Then there are a few of us. Many would call us lucky, and perhaps we are. One way or another, we have reached our goals. Our check boxes are all checked. Weve made it. Were on that last frame / page / note Stuck. Stuck in the ever after. Just waiting for whats next. Wondering whos going to write our sequel?

Take care,

-Fritz
